Ready... Set... Pray!
by Pastor Bill Geis and Staff

Get ready…get set… pray! On Sunday, September 13th, St. John’s will engage in an energetic effort to pray for our ministry, our community and the city of Chicago. Heading the Lord’s call to Devote ourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful, (Colossians 4:2) we invite everyone at St. John’s to engage in one of the following opportunities. No matter what your age or physical condition, there is something for everyone.

Prayer Walk

During our education hour (9:25-10:25 a.m.) we will gather in groups, rain or shine, to pray for our ministry and community at various sites inside and outside the church walls. Depending on your interest and ability, the following route options will be available. Written guides will tell you where to stop and what specific petitions you can pray at each stop along the routes.
Indoor Route—You don’t have to leave the building or even climb stairs. This short walk around the church and school helps us focus on the needs of St. John’s and those we serve.

For detailed information, see our Ministry Fair display board and Sign-up Sheet today or contact Sandi Geis (708) 354-1690 ex. 245.

Bike the Boulevard

St. John’s joins this annual Chicago tour of the city’s boulevards sponsored by the Active Transportation Alliance, but with a greater purpose. The tour begins while the rest of our congregation is in worship in St. John’s sanctuary. Those who “bike the boulevard” will worship and honor God by praying for the city and for people in many of its neighborhoods who live without the support of a church. Choose from a 16 or 35 mile route. There is a small fee to register. If you do so today, you can save $2.00. Get details today at the Ministry Fair. Don’t delay.

Together, St. John’s continues to “Go-the-Distance” as called disciples of Jesus Christ, recognizing that physical and spiritual health go hand-in-hand. These Rally Day prayer activities help us move toward reaching our GTD exercises goals and prayer goals, while providing an important opportunity for Christian fellowship among us. Register for one of the outlined routes today and say “count me in!”
